Title: Dream for those who have lost their dream

Review: Never in my life I was so compelled by the message of the book I read that I desire to translate it into my native language! (And never once AMAZON lost my order somewhere except for this one!!) I've shared it with anyone willing to listen, and get another copy for my pastor.

Everyone of us has a deep longing to find our place in this world. Some have found it, some still strive for it, and some have quit searching and just be content with what seems to be the best thing they can do. What shocked me to the max was Ps. Matthew started this whole amazing thing at the age 20!! Kinda make me think what did I do when I was at such young age??

There are so many awesome testimonies in this book, ones that will stir the heart of everyone reading it. I cried a lot, reflected the whole thing with my own life, prayed earnestly while reading it, it was like an adventurous journey for me. My conclusion after finishing this book was that the church (the Bride) should be the reflecting LOVE of Jesus (the Creator), and it is started by "treating human being (the creation) as human being" created in the image of the LOVE Himself. All testimonies in this book are simple, yet profound and life-changing, so simple that we often miss the same opportunities in our daily lives. For example, there are so many beggars in my third-world country, especially in my city being the Capital of it. And because I see them everyday, I become use to seeing them that I forget to treat them as the image of God Himself. I don't scream at them or treat them harshly, but I never once smile at them or say an encouraging word. Most often I just give them pennies through the tiny space of the car's window. I never thought how a sincere smile and blessing words could mean a lot for them. And I called myself a follower of Christ?

All the stories in this book sound exactly the same voice of what Ps. Matthew and his crew believe: Find a need and fill it. Keep showing up and being faithful, a miracle comes when you least expect it. Love cast out fear; love the city and the people, then fear will have no place to ground his feet.

For me personally, this book has become "a catalyst" for something that has been there a long time. Suddenly everything starts to fall in its place! Sometimes we need someone to boldly take the first step, show the way, and impart the courage to us. Ps. Matthew has done it relentlessly for so many broken lives and dreams in LA, and also for us.

I believe this is a message that every church (and everyone preparing herself as the Bride of Christ) needs to hear and to act upon. Our Bridegroom is a dream-maker and a dream-restorer, so are we.

Title: The Cause Within You

Review: This book is an absolute must read for anyone serving in ministry or who has identified their cause to be in a leadership position of any type. To know that the author of the book hit the streets so that he could at least temporarily experience what some of the residents at the Dream Center had experienced put things into an entirely different perspective. His message is definitely about looking outside of your own issues and loving your neighbor (great commandment); giving individuals hope to make change; and giving God the glory throughout the book.

The method of operation the Dream Center uses to run may not work for every instance, but it is a good reminder that we truly need to rely on God and focus outside of self. If you are already in some form of leadership/ministry role, then I believe this book will inspire or re-motivate you to remember the real reason you chose the journey you are currently on.

While this book does not provide any formula for identifying your cause, he does include Christian principles that remind us that God can use our past circumstances to serve his greater purpose; remembering to love God and others through even the difficult times; and that we have to be open to new possibilities that we might have overlooked previously.

This book will inspire you to want to make change in yourself and to work towards fulfilling the purpose for which God sent you. His best advice is to simply listen to the Holy Spirit as it helps you identify your cause. I highly recommend this books for anyone who has identified their cause and needs inspiration; and I also highly recommend it for individuals who are teaching future Christian leaders. Sometimes we have to step outside our comfort zones to effect change. While I don't have the exact wording in front of me, Barnett does reference the disciples and how they didn't necessarily know what they were getting into when they agreed to follow Jesus. Do you really think the disciples would have followed Christ if they had known everything that was going to happen in the beginning? They may have, but the also would have over thought or tried to change the path that God had already set in motion. So again, it is a reminder to let God be the leader and remember that you are serving him. This isn't about finding/seeking great success or accolades, this is about fulfilling your purpose and finding the entire peace/joy that we all search for on a daily basis.

The writing was excellent. I read it in a day, and will likely read it again soon (this time with a highlighter)!!!

Pastor Matthew Barnett founded the Dream Center in Los Angeles based on an idea that he had, and by following God's plan for Matthew's project. He made a note that the success of the Dream Center came from diligent listening, and meditating on what God was saying to him and what his plans were for the center.

Barnett's Dream Center in Los Angeles, currently serves more than 30,000 people each week with common necessities like food, clothing, rehabilitation and counseling, medical needs and shelter. And, the Dream Center's help doesn't stop there. During the holidays, they hand out over 2,000 turkeys each Thanksgiving, 6,500 new bikes and toys at Christmas and 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies are given to children come back to school time. If a person cannot make it to the Dream Center, mobile trucks hand out food to the hungry and offer much needed medical support to those without medical insurance or way to get the medical help they desperately need.

Matthew Barnett shares his own story and purpose as well as stories of other's whose lives have also been transformed. Matthew shows the way for anyone who is searching for their own purpose. He gives simple insight on how to find what a person cause is, how to prepare your plans for creation, and how one can benefit by helping others.

This book was open and honest, exciting, and I must say, it was hard to put down! The book was full of ideas, possibilities and opportunities for someone excited to start their own cause. I recommend it to anyone of all ages!
